Upcoming Events & Projects
Summers at WRC were once a bit of a lull, a break before we geared up
for the exciting fall campaign period. These days, the staff and volunteers have never been busier. .
Here is a quick run down of some of the projects we are working on.
Engaging Men - Mexico City
Engaging men and boys in the prevention of the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.
Mexico City, August 4-5
As a member of the global MenEngage alliance, WRC is
taking the lead on bringing together international
experts working on the advancement of gender equality through work with men and boys, and those concerned
with eliminating the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in Mexico City this August.
This will be the first time these networks gather to explicitly look at the positive role men and boys can play
in the prevention of this global epidemic.
The goal of this meeting is to identify and prioritize an action agenda for engaging men and boys in
combating sexual exploitation and violence against children. The concepts, methods, experience and lessons
learnt from work which promotes critical reflection on masculinity founded on equity and human rights as
well as the White Paper developed by MenEngage will serve as a base for generating the exchange among actors
who will consider how to extend work to address that actively engages men and boys in the prevention of sexual
exploitation and sexual violence.
This opportunity for reflection and exchange of experiences, lessons learned and challenges faced
will contribute invaluable learning for the World Congress III against Sexual Exploitation of Children,
in which conceptual tools and strategies to combat CSEC globally in coming years will be redefined and
adjusted; and as follow up to the White Paper developed by MenEngage.
Stay tuned for a post-meeting update.
Equal Relationships Project
The White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) and Le Centre ontarien de prevention des agressions (COPA) are proud to submit
this Request For Proposals (RFP) for Agencies to develop an internet-based, social media awareness campaign aimed at:
Coaching boys (age 8 – 14) into manhood through an internet based, social media awareness campaign and
comprehensive supporting website that encourages, empowers, inspires, and supports men in valuing women as equals,
showing empathy, and teaching the skills and benefits of healthy and equal relationships.
We have learned that men have a willingness to work to end VAW by talking with young people in their lives.
Often they lack the tools and support to accomplish this and it is our hope that the Equal Relationships Project
will provide those tools and support.
This project is still in the planning stages but will be launched in the spring 2009.
Deadline for submissions is Friday, August 29th, 2008
