Council of Europe brings human rights to the playing field
[14/11/2008 10:00:00] Sports journalists and anti-discrimination specialists from across Europe gathered in Strasbourg on 20 November for a seminar marking the Council of Europe’s ''Speak out against Discrimination'' campaign.
The seminar provided an opportunity to scrutinise the ''media perspective'' of sport and discrimination. It included a presentation by the football-player Lilian Thuram, president of the foundation Education against Racism.
On 21 November, at a conference entitled 'Sports Subject to Test Cultural Diversity. Integration and Intercultural Dialogue,' European parliamentarians, representatives of NGOs and leaders of sports institutions discussed the contribution sport can make to social cohesion and dialogue.

Moneyval: meeting in Monaco
[21/11/2008 15:00:00] On 24-26 November, the MONEYVAL Committee (Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism) and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will hold a joint meeting in Monte-Carlo (Monaco).
The meeting brings together law enforcement experts and regulatory authorities to share experiences and to discuss lessons learnt from real cases.

Congress against Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents
[19/11/2008 10:00:00] Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Deputy Secretary General, will participate in the 3rd World Congress against Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents, in Rio de Janeiro, on 25-28 November. She will present the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, which was opened for signature in 2007.

She called for ''comprehensive strategies'' to safeguard young people and encouraged support for the Convention on the protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse.

Terry Davis looks forward to a strong Spanish chairmanship of the Council of Europe
[19/11/2008 14:00:00] On 19 November in Madrid, Secretary General Terry Davis met with Spain’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Miguel Angel Moratinos, to discuss the country’s forthcoming chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers.
Respect for human rights, the fight against terrorism, racism and intolerance, the protection of minorities and minority languages and intercultural dialogue were among the issues raised.

Stadia violence: evaluation visit to Serbia
